"Firstly, to let you know we had an excellent week at the Chateau; the weather was pretty good and the proprietor, catering and caretaker's teams all really kind and helpful. The catering service was just right and was used most nights by some 18-20 people. Everyone had a good time and full use was made of the tennis court and swimming pool. We would recommend it to others. Thank you Oliver and the Chateau personnel for all the help in arranging this successful and memorable holiday."
The nearest airports are Paris (300km) and Geneva (230km) and the nearest town is Morlet 2km away. The Château is part of the Commune de Morlet, a tiny country village. The village consists of just two farmhouses and the château. The village of Morlet, a small community of 80, is only a little bigger and is just 2 kilometres away.
The château is an excellent starting point for exploring the local area and taking part in a wide variety of activities. It is located south-east of the Morvan between Autun and Beaune. Beaune, Autun, Nolay, Chalon, Dijon, and Chateau Chinon are nearby and provide many kinds of touristic and cultural opportunities: museums, festivals, exhibitions. The area also includes numerous châteaux and other historical sites, including world famous vineyards and wine cellars where you can taste and buy excellent Burgundy wines by the bottle or ‘en vrac’. The château has all the information needed to plan your trips. Restaurants, a small supermarket, a bakery and a butcher are only 8 km away in the small town of Epinac.
There are also excellent walks available around the chateau, with many trips starting at the chateau. They range from 4km upwards depending on how strenuous you want the walk to be, but all of them will provide stunning views and sights. The Morvan is the perfect place for walking and would be ideal for you to bring a picnic, or get the chateau to prepare a picnic for you!
The nearest golf course is in Autun, an excellent 9 hole course which is 20 km from the château and 18 hole courses can be found in Beaune at 32 km, Chalon at 30 km and Dijon. Angling is also very popular in this area and the chateau can obtain a permit for you should you wish to do this.
There is plenty for children and families to do in and around Burgundy including visiting a zoo, an adventure park, going go-karting or making pottery. There are also excellent restaurants suitable for families. Children also enjoy spending time at the chateau and making the most of the swimming pool, the tennis courts, the play ground and the many ball games that they can play on the lawns.
