Chateau De Challagne

Welcome to Chateau de Challagne, the “Petit Chambord”. Completed as a private residence in 1854, this magnificent chateau is the jewel of the region, now providing guests with luxurious suites for their holidays in France. Designed for superior comfort, each room is brightened by the charm and elegance of a glamorous era. Come visit, and step inside a fairytale castle.

The Chateau de Challagne is located only thirty minutes outside the town of Angers, and only one and a half hours from Paris by TGV. The structure is a marvel to behold; 150ft limestone walls contain 365 windows, 52 fireplaces, and 12 turrets, as well as countless sculptural details along the facade. The splendour continues inside. Masterfully carved wood panelling and cabinetry, stunning hand-painted ceilings, and flawlessly chosen decor make each salon a truly luxurious experience. Situated within beautiful grounds, the Chateau de Challagne complex makes up one corner of a small village.

At the Chateau de Challagne our accommodation has been refurbished to the highest standards, offering you both the grand design of the nineteenth century and the luxury of today's technology. Every convenience is available during your stay at the chateau. Each suite includes robes, slippers, a hairdryer, private w/c, bath and tea & coffee making facilities. We aim to make your holidays in France truly memorable. Experience historic luxury as you sip champagne, read poetry, and soak in a giant claw foot bath tub, surrounded by fresh flowers.

The Kings Suite consists of a double bedroom & a twin. This original master bedroom is available with authentic furnishing. The canopy bed is made from hand carved oak standing fourteen feet tall. The second bedroom with twin beds is connected by a dressing room and bathroom. The Romance Suite includes a grand double silk bed, full bathroom, and separate salon. The Mme Rochefoucauld Suite has a double bed, a connecting single and an en suite bathroom. The view outside the grand window is of the south lawn and 2 hectare lake. The adjoining single room has a beautiful sled bed filled with pillows. The Tower Suite has a king size bed and a connecting single bedroom. The bathroom is aged marble.

In addition there is a mezzanine apartment to sleep 5 guests. This comprises a double bed in one room and 2 singles in the other with a pullout for a single. There is also a bathroom, a TV Salon (with queen bed available). There is an additional queen size bedroom on this level that shares the bathroom with the mezzanine apartment.

The Empress Suite & Toile Suite both have a king size bed with en suite shower room. The Napoleon Chamber consists of a double room and a single room and the Amboise Chamber is the same but with a cot available.

The beautifully laid park has a very large and attractive lake for delightful walks.

The chateau is 30 Minutes from Angers, 40 Minutes from Nantes and 90 Minutes from Paris via TGV. The nearest airports are Nantes International and Paris CDG.

Local activities include wine tasting, gastronomy, and exploring the beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley. The chateau is only 20 minutes from Chateaubriand.

Guests marvel at the cuisine that Chateau has to offer. With an on-site chef, a full wine cellar, and fresh regional produce, every meal is a new opportunity to savor the best tastes of the Loire Valley.

Overnight guests wake up to a full breakfast each morning, served from 7-10 am. Luncheons must be reserved the previous day, dinner with four hours notice. Dinners are currently €60 PP, including wine, coffee, and dessert.

A wedding at the Chateau is customized for every couple but these are the packages we offer:

The meal options will include:1. A 3 Course Meal with Wine by house Chef. A Starter, Main, and Wedding Cake with Coffee or Tea for 140E2. A 4 Course Meal with Wine by house Chef. A Starter, Main, Cheese and Wedding Cake with Coffee or Tea for 160E3. A 4 Course Meal with Wine by Gastronomic Chef. A Starter, Main, Cheese and Dessert and Wedding Cake with Coffee or Tea for 185E With each package a:- Cocktail hour with canapés is 30E pp- Cocktail hour with canapés & Champagne 40E pp.Both also include a Bouquet for the bride, décor in your color, Printed menu’s and place cards, Candle, tables and chairs. This also includes the rentalof the Chateau reception rooms from 5pm till 1am. After this time there is a 350E per hour charge. All Bar service will end at this time or the additional time will be charged.The ceremony can take place in the small chapel in the chateau for groups of 25. We also offer Garden weddings or the Memorial Tower starting at 600E. In addition the village church across the street may be rented.

There are lovely B&Bs in the area for the rest of your guests (70-1000 euros per double). As a coordinator, for a 20% fee I can take care of all needs for the wedding. For the bride this takes off all the worries of a destination wedding. Please get back to us with additional questions.

Here is a sample 4 course gourmet menu to excite your taste buds:
- Carpaccio of salmon and black japanese garlic, chopped mushrooms and shallots with a small salad.
- Roasted goose breast filet, small turnip preserve in orange flowered water, strong sauce flavored with spicy chocolate.
- Assortment of local cheeses.
- Wedding cake.

- Capacity: The property comfortably sleeps 26 adults and 4 children or teenagers.
- Security deposit: €1000. This is paid prior to arrival by and will be refunded in full after departure subject to damage inspection.
- Linen & towels: All linen and bath towels are included in the rental price.
- Energy costs: Included
- End of stay cleaning: Included.
- Arrival time: 4pm onwards.
- Departure time: 10am.
- Pets: No pets allowed.
- Smoking: No smoking in the property.
- It is recommended that all guests take out insurance to cover against potential cancellation and any accidental damage caused during your stay at the property.

Thank you so much once again for another memorable weekend at the Chateau – it was so relaxing and we were made to feel so much at home? The dinner at Simon's Saturday night was simply fabulous? James and Zeus were like long lost friends and they were very content Sunday evening curled up in front of the fire with us in the kitchen.

I would also like to take the opportunity to say an enormous thank you for our magnificent wedding at your Chateau? Our friends just can't stop talking about it? I guess we'll just have to do the same over again each year! Not to mention the weekends in between. No but seriously, it was wonderful to have all the stress of organizing a wedding eliminated - for once? I only had to concentrate on myself. All taken care of by you personally and we were all made to feel incredibly welcome and as for the buffet it was simply second to none and with those fabulous table settings and decoration everything looked a million dollars. I had to pinch myself that it was all real! And as for the elegant sumptuous bedrooms - wow! In short there are no words good enough to describe the whole day, other than to say that you, Cynthia and you fairytale Chateau are the ultimate. It was a dream that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. It would be impossible to better this venue for a wedding, as I am sure all of your couples would no doubt agree? I'd like to thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful castle. My husband & I have spent the night of October 2nd. We had a marvelous time in your chateau. Everything is absolutely beautiful there, the style, every little touch. We felt like a king & queen staying in a palace. Our children (we have two boys, both married) and all our friends who saw the pictures we took, making a plan to go there sometime. Thank you again for giving us the wonderful opportunity to experience chateau living.

We have not been back long from our short break in the chateau, what a beautiful place, we fell in love with it as soon as we saw it, we were looked after from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The meals were superb and very well presented, nothing was too much trouble. It really felt very homely and very relaxing (we even got used to the church bells ringing). Zeus was always there to greet us when we got back from our day out, usually with a stick in his mouth. The surrounding area was beautiful too. On our wedding anniversary we even managed to get our photo taken in a field of sunflowers, something we have wanted to do since we got married.  When we walked into the chapel for are wedding Blessing ceremony, I could have cried it was so beautiful, Fabian had done a lovely job decorating it with flowers and candles, everything went perfectly and it was a day to remember. I even managed to get the bouquet home to put on my fathers grave in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire.  I cannot praise the chateau and staff enough. Many thanks for sharing your home with us.
