The local village was once the feudal domain of the Bruces, ancestors of Scotland's famous King Robert the Bruce. Within a short distance of the chateau you will find ancient villages, chateaux, manors, churches and abbeys. Normandy has a rich history and is proud of its cultural heritage from the Romans, Celts, Vikings and Normans.
The chateau is close to beautiful sandy beaches (20 minutes), a wide choice of restaurants (5 minutes), a children’s animal park (15 minutes), the traditional French markets with fresh local produce (10 minutes), La maison du biscuit hyper markets/shopping area (10 minutes), Mont St. Michel (1.5 hour), D-Day landing beaches (30 minutes), the Bayeux Tapestry (1 hour), Sea life Cherbourg (10 minutes). We can provide you with Calvados from the local farmer and wine tasting if it's of interest.
There is a restaurant 8km away for simple, good value French food. We recommend the local markets on Monday morning in Bricquebec (7 km) and Friday morning in Valognes (10 km). In the village is a bakery, post office, bar, butcher, a medical centre and a pharmacy, all within walking distance of the chateau.
Locally there is a tennis court and horse riding. Golf is 6km away. The area is well suited for walking and hiking, and (experienced) biking.
We can give you a quote depending on your wishes. It is possible to rent a French cook, specialities are roasted meat and fruits de mer. Simple meals are also possible, we are very flexible.
We can also hire an English cook, who is very reasonable in price and makes beautiful meals - he had his own fine restaurant doing haute cuisine for many years.

Hello Karine & Francois! I want to say thank you for such a wonderful summer. Everyone said that I seemed like a different person when I got back and indeed I did feel 100% better than at the end of last term. I hope it doesn't wear off too quickly! Everything was just perfect, including the weather.
