Constructed by a French Artillery Offficer in 1860, Château de la Moulonniere takes its name from the ancient earth mounds found typically in the region and makes an ideal base from which to explore the delightful, historical Anjou region.
The chateau lies peacefully in its own 42 hectare vineyard in the heart of one of the most famous wine appellations in France, the Côteaux du Layon. Red, white, rosé and sparkling wines are made here and guests are welcome to enjoy guided tours the vineyard and cellar and of course to taste the excellent quality wines.
The château has been entirely restored, decorated and simply but tastefully furnished in keeping with its original Napoleon III style.
The accommodation is in double or twin-bedded rooms, each with en-suite facilities; a family suite with one double and one single bed is also available. A ground floor bedroom with its own door into the garden provides easy access for people with reduced mobility.
Telephone, fax & broadband internet services are available as is satellite TV in the comfortable family sitting room. A billiard room and small library are situated on the first floor.
The gardens, park and paddocks extend to 2.2 hectares with fishing on the River Layon.
