Chateau De Camiller

The 17th century Chateau de Camiller is set in 34 acres of wonderful sunny terraces, gardens and woodland. The bedroom suites combine period furnishings with modern bathroom facilities whilst downstairs wonderful open fireplaces, TV & satellite, a fully equipped kitchen and a 15x10 metre swimming pool add to the enjoyment of your stay.

Every room has its own atmosphere and they have all been recently refurbished with new curtains and cushions combining beautifully with the original furniture of the chateau, the antique sleigh beds and lots of Persian rugs to create a real feeling of cosiness and charm.

All the rooms are centrally heated and very cosy in the winter..... and in the summer, very cool, as the walls of this ancient chateau are many feet thick and the windows open on both sides of the house enabling cooling breezes to blow right through the house. The owners live in an annexe apartment on site so are there to offer any help should you need it.

On the ground floor there is a wonderful dining room, with exposed beams and a stone fireplace. The kitchen seems to be a hub for the chateau guests, with all the mod cons. There is a large sitting room with fireplace, library, DVD and TV. There is also an elegant salon and playroom with a table tennis table and snooker table. There are two ground floor bedrooms, a double and a triple with adjoining WC.

On the first floor there are six bedrooms, sleeping 11 guests in 2 doubles, 3 twins and a triple. 5 of the bedrooms are very large and many of the single beds are sleigh beds which can comfortably sleep extra children. Each room has its own unique atmosphere and lovely view. They are all furnished with original furniture that has been in the house for generations. There is a large bathroom on the stair landing with a roll top bath and wooden floors and 2 further bathrooms, one en-suite to the master bedroom. All the bathrooms have modern showers and baths and there is plenty of hot water.
 
The Château de Camiller is set in 32 acres of grounds in which one can soak up the sun and enjoy the sounds and sights of rural life. The grounds are made up of a large garden, the alarmed and fenced private swimming pool (15x7m), open fields, a stream and a small wood. There are spectacular views from every angles. At the rear of the chateau, there is a large grass terrace with refectory tables. Here you can enjoy meals in the shade of the tall trees.

It is situated in the tranquil countryside of Correze on the frontier of Limousin and Auvergne, a region of high plateaus and deeply incised gorges. There are many rivers close by, none more renowned than the Dordogne river, the lifeblood of a region famed for stunning natural scenery, beautiful medieval towns and, of course, excellent food and wine.

The 17th century chateau accommodation is set in 34 acres of wonderful sunny terraces, gardens and woodland. The bedroom suites combine period furnishings with modern bathroom facilities whilst downstairs wonderful open fireplaces, TV & satellite, a fully equipped kitchen and a 15x10 metre swimming pool add to the enjoyment of your stay.

The chateau is 5 minutes drive from the welcoming village of Saint Privat which has all conveniences including two bakeries, two small supermarkets, a post office, banking, restaurants, bar and tabac. Close by you will find the picturesque medieval towns of Argentat (below left) and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne whilst Collonges la Rouges (below right), the prettiest village in France, is just and hour and a half away.

Guests can choose whether to take our meals service for the whole duration of their stay, for just a few select meals or not at all.  Our catering service for breakfast starts at 6 Euros per person. Lunch and dinner are from 9 Euros per person, delivered by our local restaurant who provide a wonderful range of  regional cuisine & daily special to let you explore the culinary delights of this part of France (all dishes made from fresh locally-produced, often organic, ingredients!).

We can provide daily housekeeping if it is required at a charge of 12 Euros per hour. In addition, we can offer a babysitting service, and an activities programme for children with a fully accredited activity centre nearby. Children can be collected from the chateau and taken to a range of supervised activities such as orienteering, tree-climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, bungy-trampolining, hiking, horseriding, fishing, archery as well as a whole range of ‘natural world’ activities to help them discover nature!

We are also able to provide the servides of a beauty therapist who will perform a full range of massage, facial treatments, manicures, pedicures etc in the privacy of your room, by appointment.

This accommodation is a gem that you feel you've 'discovered' and want to keep to yourself! Nestled into the rolling hills of the Limosin region is the Chateau; an incredible, beautiful, historic chateau that dates back to the 17th century. The moment we rolled through the gates of the chateau, we knew we'd made an oustanding choice in terms of accommodation - this place surpassed all of our expectations. Not only was it in one of the most lush and beautiful regions of central France, but it was gorgeously furnished, decadent in it's size, incredibly well maintained and amazingly well equipped. During our stay, we indulged in an amazing breakfasts under the shade of a large tree, spent hours sipping wine and eating cheese by the pool (with only the cows and the birds for company), enjoyed a veritable 'feast' in the barbeque and spent cosy nights by the roaring fire, planning our next days activities. Making use of the extraordinary array of sporting equipment, we also played boules in the backyard whilst sipping champagne (only in France!), explored the lovely countryside, visited nearby Argentat and historic towns such as Rocamadour and Collonges-la-Rouge. Our host Tim proved to be not only the consummate professional, a wealth of information about the local area but also an excellent cook! If we get the opportunity to visit France again, there's not a doubt in my mind that we'll stay at the chateau again.

I completely fell in love with the Chateau, its incredible surroundings and its warm welcome. The quality of tuition during the activities was superb, I particularly enjoyed horse-riding and the canoe trip down the river. Relaxing in the evening with friends, good wine and fabulous food made for a brilliant trip.

Our stay at this boutique Chateau was superb. We traveled with two friends and their children (4 adults and 6 children in total) and we all had a great time! The owner lives right next door and provided us with everything we needed. She planned our activities (canoeing, fishing, horse back riding) and made us feel at home. The rooms are very nicely decorated and have high quality beds. We ate outside most of the time, the weather was very nice and we even used the barbecue in the beautiful garden. But if it might rain, the spacious kitchen, dining and living rooms provide shelter and warmth. The kids very much loved the big pool. It has a modern filtering system, no smelly chlorine is used!

I really enjoyed my visit to the Chateau and the surrounding countryside, the chateau is stunning and with the pool made it ideal for relaxing, playing games and cooking with friends. i was not that familiar with the local area, but I quicky found that there was a host of interesting activities to do, a highlight was canoing down the rapids on the dordogne, trekking in the dordogne gorges and hiking in the massif central an hour away to the west. The area is also famous for its gastromony and I had one of my best ever French meals sitting outside under the plane trees in Argentat outside the hotel restaurant. There is also a nearby lake for swimming and tennis courts, which was fun, especially with a family. This area seems fairly unspoilt and the local people were very welcoming and tolerant of my attempts with limited French, this made us fell welcome in the region. There were a lot of interesting villages and archaelogical sites which I didnt get round to this time, but I hope to return and explore more.
