Chateau de Mairie is a beautiful 17th Century Monument Historique set in 15 hectares of lovely gardens and wooded grounds with its own private lake and chapel.
The gardens were designed by Le Notre who was a famous garden architect in his day and well known for the gardens he created at Versailles. The chateau has had an interesting past, it was visited by Charles II whilst he was in exile and occupied by the Germans during World War II. Now it is our home which we have sympathetically decorated and furnished using traditional colours and antiques.
There is a very relaxed atmosphere here, lots of open fireplaces to relax infront of in winter and some pretty spots in the grounds to laze away sunny afternoons. For the more active we have a billiard table and boats to take out on the lake. There is also a tennis court nearby.
We are resident owners - on hand to give any information about the area or to prepare breakfasts or other meals if you wish. Our guest see as much or as little of us as they choose as we have a completely private wing of the chateau with no shared facilities!!
The chateau is available to hire on a self catering basis for up to 23 people in ten bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The cottage (sleeping four), the tower (sleeping two) and the gatehouse (sleeping five) are available along with the chateau to sleep up to 34 adults with two extra baby cots if needs be.

The chateau is located in a small village within walking distance of the local restaurant. The closest shops are 5 minutes drive away which include a boulangerie, pharmacy and 'corner shop'. The lovely old town of Chalons en Champagne is about 10 minutes drive where you can find large supermarkets and a covered market three times a week. Here you will also find the Grande Romaine golf course. The cathedral city of Reims is about 30 minutes away and Disneyland and Paris itself are within an hour by TGV. We are three hours drive from Calais and just under two from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.
We are in the heart of Champagne country and can point you in the direction of the 'route de champagne' which takes you through some pretty villages where you can taste and buy champagne and wine from small family owned producers and from the biggest champagne houses in the world. If you tire of tasting champagne you can take a boat out onto our lake or spend a peaceful afternoon fishing. In summer you can even take a dip to cool off.
We can arrange catering to be done by the local restaurant or 'family' meals can be prepared by us. The price for our four course dinner is 25 euros per head, children 10 years and under old are 10 euros, and we offer a selection of wines from about 7 euros per bottle. Or the local caterers will make up a selection of menus with various prices from which to choose. We also offer a shopping facility - send us a list and we will do it all for you before you arrive, the charge is 20 euros.
We offer breakfast at 10 euros per person (5 euros for under 10's), and champagne breakfasts for 18 euros per head. Breakfast is served in the dining room at a time to suit you. I'll bet it's a lovely place to be in winter, holed up in front of the fireplace with some baguettes and cheese and a cup of hot chocolate...I also have been meaning to send you a couple of photos - we've been terribly lazy about getting them together to show everyone but were so happy with the way they came out. It was a gorgeous place and a gorgeous time to be there. Really, we look back so fondly on the entire thing, thanks for making it such a dream. Lastly, it seems that some of the photos and details may be featured in a story about international couples and weddings in Marie Claire CHINA (thanks to our photographer Jo) - so get ready for Chinese brides! All the best,
Diane
It was a blast !!! Really love the weekend and your hospitality and true generosity. Take care.

Hi Michele and Frans,
I just wanted to thank you both for making our stay at your chateau a memorable and delightful one. It was a perfect way to spend my birthday week and I especially appreciate your fine cooking for my birthday dinner. My friends from near and far haven't stopped talking about how much they enjoyed themselves and how much fun they all had. Your hospitality certainly made a big contribution to that. I hope the last couple of weeks have gone well and that the summer and fall will continue to be profitable and enjoyable for you, too. I went back to work this past Monday, so the busyness of the beginning of the school year sometimes tends to obscure my happy summer memories. But I keep them alive by telling my colleagues what a great time I had. Perhaps our paths will cross again. It would be a delight. Thanks again.
