The Chateau is a unique and rare find given its fantastic location. It is one of the very few that is available for weekly rentals that still has working vineyards now transformed to a hectare of terraced gardens and fruit orchards.

Built from traditional girondine stone in 1818, Chateau La Roque is located in the Fronsadais wine territory. The warm, quiet, inviting surroundings of the Chateau come complete with a tennis court and swimming pool. The hillside setting of the Chateau provides you with panoramic views of the Dordogne river as well as the surrounding working vineyards. With direct access from the Chateau grounds, the undulating hills of Fronsac countryside will appeal to those who enjoy hiking, cycling, fishing and horseriding.

Chateau La Roque is superbly positioned as it neighbours the world heritage site of St Emilion and the adjoining world renowned vineyards of Pomerol. The  bustling, lively market town of Libourne, which hosts the most wonderful markets three mornings a week, is less than 10 minutes by car. The cosmoplitan and elegant city of Bordeaux is less than half an hours drive away. The unspoilt Atlantic coastline is also within very easy reach for Cap Ferret, Arcachon and the impressive Dune de Pyla. For wine lovers, The Haut Medoc and Sauterne regions are both within a reasonably short drive.

For dining out opposite the Chateau's gates is a tradional local restaurant overlooking a lake and surrounding woodlands. Libourne and St Emilion have a vast variety of restaurants ranging from the traditional style French Brasserie's to the high end gourmet Michelin restaurants as does Bordeaux city.

The guest bedrooms in the chateau comprise of a master suite and four further bedrooms, all with modern en-suite bath or shower rooms. All rooms are luxuriously appointed with a mix of Irish antiques. Only the finest Italian bed linen and towelling are to be found in the bathrooms.

The ground floor accommodation comprises the main entrance marble hallway that can be used as a dining or sitting area, two large cosy yet stylish salons with original beams and stone walls, a simple and elegantly furnished dining room, a state of the art modern granite kitchen with all appliances and an adjoining linen room. There is satelite TV with DVD in both the salon and the bedroom Suite. The chateau also has internet access and an ipod docking station.

In the chateau‘s grounds you can relax on sunloungers on the terraced area by the private swimming pool or on a hammock beneath the horse chestnut trees. There is also a hard tennis court (racquets & balls provided). You are most welcome to stroll around the grounds and help yourself to any ripened fruit from the numerous variety of fruit trees or indeed any ripe fruit or vegetables from the owners vegetable garden. A barbecue is available for al fresco dining on the outside terrace. A number of bicycles are also provided.

The gates from the chateau lead on to cycling and hiking paths, across vineyards and woodland areas. Horseriding is available in the nearby village of Fronsac. Canoeing is also possible on the Dordogne river and fishing at the lake directly opposite the property. River cruises are available from Libourne. Neighbouring Chateaux offer all year round degustations and visits to their spectacular caves.

For local shopping the market town of Libourne is closest and is a 10 minute drive. You will find all local produce available for sale at the market, held 3 mornings a week, and on the perimeter of the town there are a wide range of major supermarkets.

Bordeaux's Merignac international airport is a 30 minute drive and Bergerac is one hour from the Chateau. The Mainline railway station is Libourne which serves the TGV from Paris and other rail routes.

A 15 minute drive brings you to Saint-Emilion which is renowned the world over for its red wine. Saint Emilion is a medieval town and can be likened to an amazing open-air museum. It has a remarkable underground monolithic church dug out of solid limestone. It is an ideal spot for either a relaxing stroll, or to take a deeper look into the town’s history and well worth driving back through the vineyards of Pomerol.

There are numerous historical monuments, museums and galleries, gourmet restaurants famed for their Bordelaise cuisine and countless designer shops to visit in the cosmopolitan city of Bordeaux which is famed for its architectural heritage of the 18th century. It is 25 minutes drive.

An hours drive brings you to the Atlantic Ocean with its sand dunes, large ocean breakers, some of Europe’s finest unspoilt beaches and glamorous Cap Ferret, where the wealthy of today still choose to spend their summers and dine in some of the finest seafood restaurants to be found on this coastline. Measuring 107 meters, the Dune de Pyla, is Europe‘s highest sand dune. From the summit there are truly breathtaking views of the ocean, surrounding woodlands and the distant Pyrenees. View apart, it is well worth the hike up alone so you can run down it. For the young at heart surf “dude” enthusiasts should visit Lacanau which hosts each year one of Europe’s biggest surf competitions. It is a really fun place with plenty of restaurants and beachwear boutiques. Alternatively you could visit the charming, buzzing ocean side town of Arcachon with its oyster bays and it’s protected basin that is ideal for safe swimming for children.

In the neighbouring Dordogne a suggested day trip would be to explore the well known Caves of Lascaux and closer to the Chateau is the famous citadelle of Blaye.

We can arrange for a wonderful French chef (fluent in English) who was trained by Paul Bocuse and whose career spanned many 5 star restaurants in London and St Emilion to cook either lunch or dinner for you at the Chateau. All menus are created by Christophe using seasonal and regional products. He is happy to give cookery demonstrations and advise on wine(s) to accompany each course. His food is simply a gastronomique delight not to be missed.

We also have a trained masseuse who comes to the property and can provide massage or other beauty treatments for both men and women.

Maid service is also available on request for an additional fee.

Dear Jane, the Chateau is very pretty and the pool is fantastic. I really enjoyed playing in the tennis court even though I am not very good at it.

Hi Jane, Thanks for a lovely week in your Chateau, we really did have a wonderful week and were sad to leave. The house is so well equipped that we really did not miss anything from home. The kids loved jumping in and out of the pool and relaxing around the garden. Christophe is a brilliant find, he cooked us all two lovely meals, if we could have booked him for the full week we would have done so, maybe next time!

Dear Jane, your home is absolutely beautiful and the setting just idylic. We very much appreciated your attention to detail, I hope the orchids survived as we did not realize they were real until the blooms started dropping off! We could have easily spent more time in the area, there is so much to see and do. We did manage a visit to both St Emilion and Bordeaux. Thank you again for such a wonderful week.
