The Chateau du Roy is a beautiful, tranquil 17th century chartreuse set in a 184 acre estate in the heart of the Dordogne. It is considered locally to be the most important building of its kind in the whole of the Perigord region and sits in a wooded valley with extensive gardens, a heated swimming pool and a lake.
The chateau has recently been returned to its former glory with many original features, including stone and marble fire surrounds and elegant wall panelling. It is able to accommodate up to 20 guests in both the main house and the beautifully converted barn. There are 10 bedrooms in total, 6 in the main house and 4 in the Barn. Included in the price is a 2 hourly cleaning service each weekday morning.
The Main House
Ground floor: kitchen, breakfast room, utility and laundry, a sitting room with bar, bathroom with shower and sauna and a twin bedroom.
First floor: 4 double bedrooms (one ensuite with shower) and a twin room, 1 seperate lavatory, a hall, dining room and drawing room.
2nd floor: 2 double bathrooms with baths and showers.
Outside is a pretty stone kitchen terrace next to a lovely herb garden. Formal lawns and a rose garden with a gravel path lead to a wooden bridge over the river Manaurie, which runs through the centre of the gardens. A pergola draped in wisteria covers the barbecue area with table and chairs for outside dining. This area also has the fire pit surrounded by brick banquettes ideal for after dinner relaxing. A large heated swimming pool with safety cover, a terrace with loungers and a pool house is set discreetly between the Barn and the Main House.
The Barn
Ground floor: 1 twin bedroom with dressing room, ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. A huge open plan kitchen/living/dining space.
First floor: master bedroom with 2 ensuite showers, 1 double with ensuite shower and a twin room with ensuite shower room. There is also an extensive mezzanine area with a large and comfortable reading and relaxing area.
Outside space at the Barn is a small breakfast terrace and spacious formal gardens with fruit trees, rose garden, fruit and vegetable gardens and lawns overlooking the lake.
Linen and towels are provided for both houses and they both have cosy woodburning stoves for the cooler evenings.
