In the heart of the Loire Valley, the 18th century Chateau de Guerrinet is surrounded by 40 acres of glorious gardens, woodland and meadows. It is located in 4,000 acres of unspoilt woods with an extensive network of paths for guest to explore, by foot or bicycle. From the chateau grounds, it is often possible to see deer in the surrounding forest.
The luxury suites all come with en-suite bathrooms. At both ends of the chateau are terraces ideal for catching the morning or afternoon sun. The Chateau de Guerrinet reflects the changing seasons throughout the year: the bluebells and magnolias of spring, the wild flowers of summer, the breathtaking colours of the autumn foliage, ferns and heather and the clear, crisp days of winter when snow covers the gardens and surrounding countryside.
The Chateau de Guerrinet was constructed for a Prussian Prince and his wife in 1797 on 16th century foundations. It boasts incredible symmetry and precise architectural detail typical of the renaissance style. The chateau, built for entertaining the French elite, is full of impressive renaissance fireplaces complemented by parquet floors, luxurious furnishings, original wood panelling and intricate plastering. The stunning reception rooms are filled with sunshine both morning and afternoon courtesy of double aspect 5 metre high windows. The spacious living rooms and the grand hall and balcony provide wonderful areas for reading, relaxing or socialising with friends and family.
Marcel Proust (1871-1922), the famous French intellectual, novelist and critic, was a regular visitor to the chateau. He is claimed by some to be the greatest novelist of the 20th century and it is highly likely he penned some of his works whilst staying at the chateau, perhaps taking inspiration from the chateau and surrounding area.
