This beautiful chateau is situated in a green valley within walking distance of an ancient village. A long drive takes you up to the charming, fully restored manor house that can sleep up to 26 guests. The chateau sits among beautiful gardens with plenty of garden furniture and a purpose built BBQ area. The tranquil setting of the chateau includes a small stream running through the grounds, two ponds (that cannot currently be used for fishing) and a wood to explore.

The property is ideally suited to large groups for special occasions. Contact Oliver's VIP Concierge to arrange an optional breakfast that can be served outside on the patio, surrounded by flowers, or inside by candlelight in the medieval dining room.

For those who want to relive past glories, the chateau offers an evocative slice of France's past. Within the grounds are the ruins of former chateau buildings, a well dating back to 1753, a dovecote from the 16th Century, the original wine caves (now out of use and used for storage) and the stone windows of a 12th Century chapel that will simply steal your heart!

The chateau has been converted in to several self-catering apartments and extra bedrooms all within the main building. This makes it ideal for a number of families holidaying together who wish to maintain a level of privacy. All the rooms have central heating apart from the top floor apartment, which has one room with electric heating.

On the ground floor the medieval dining room, with huge fireplace (decorative only) and many candles, can seat 25 (TV with a few English channels. The salon bedroom is a lovely well-proportioned double room with luxury en-suite bathroom. The sunny garden room that adjoins has 2 single beds, a small double and private access to the garden. Also on the ground floor is a well-proportioned classical bedroom suite with oak parquet floor, panelled walls, rose marble fireplace, double bed and en-suite bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, dish washer, microwave, oven, hob, fridge, freezer and cooking faciltities for the group.

On the first floor the stylishly furnished apartment in the left wing is accessed via the tower. The living room has original beams, a log fire and comfortable chairs and sofa. There is also a large kitchen, a triple bedroom, a double bedroom and a bathroom. The next apartment on this floor has a living room with double bed, a corner kitchen, an additional triple bedroom and a bathroom. The third apartment on this floor has a kitchen, a spacious living room, a double bedroom and a bathroom. The last bedroom on this floor is a very comfortable suite room with beautiful antique furniture, an extra large double bed, comfortable chairs and sofa, log fire, dinner table and en-suite bathroom.

On the second floor are 2 adjoining triple bedrooms with wash basin and WC. On the other side of the chateau, also on the second floor, is a double bedroom with bathroom en suite, plus a little mezzanine that sleeps one small child.

Outside the manor house is set within 5 hectares of gardens including a small wood. There are enclosed gardens for the children to play in including playgrounds, slide, swings, cabin and games such as badminton, cricket, boules, table tennis etc. They can also feed the donkeys and horses in the paddocks. Secure parking is available and the chateau sits 500 metres from the road (a small road) so there is no traffic noise.

Guest also have access to a 16th century dovecot, a lovely tower, which offers a unique and special atmosphere. It is ideal for a for dance parties or nice meal with a group of friends. We can also organise a delicious suckling pig on the spit or roast lamb.

There is plenty of good quality garden furniture and a number of picnic tables. The BBQ area is situated under huge trees where you can enjoy evening parties in the park by candlelight.

Ancient villages, chateaux, manors, churches and abbeys can be found within a short distance from the chateau. Normandy has a rich history and is proud of its cultural heritage from the Romans, Celts, Vikings and Normans.  The local village was once the feudal domain of the Bruces, ancestors of Scotland's famous King Robert the Bruce.

The chateau is close to beautiful sandy beaches (20 minutes), a wide choice of restaurants (5 minutes), a children’s animal park (15 minutes), the traditional French markets with fresh local produce (10 minutes), the La Maison du Biscuit hypermarket/shopping area (10 minutes), Mont St. Michel (1.5 hour), the D-Day landing beaches (30 minutes), the Bayeux Tapestry (1 hour) and Sea Life Cherbourg (10 minutes).  Calvados from the local farmer and wine tasting can be provided if you are interested.

There is a restaurant 8km away for simple, good value French food. The local markets on Monday morning in Bricquebec (7km) and Friday morning in Valognes (10km) are recommended. Within walking distance of the chateau, in the local village, is a bakery, post office, bar, butcher, medical centre and pharmacy.

Tennis and horse riding can be found locally. Golf is 6km away. The area is well suited for walking, hiking and (experienced) biking.

  • The perfect vacation spot

Posted by Anon . on 24/01/2013

While searching for the perfect place in Normandy to house our family and extended family for a week, we found 16th C Normandy Chateau. We were delighted to learn the Chateau had ample space to house our entire multi-generational group of 24 at a reasonable rate. Upon arrival we found the Chateau to be comfortable and roomy and the grounds perfect for children to play and explore. The set up of the rooms was ideal for privacy for each family. The two sets of grandparents each took a first floor en-suite, teenagers took the third floor connecting rooms and parents with smaller children had plenty of space in the apartments in the chateau.

The location of 16th C Normandy Chateau is perfect, located at the end of a quiet lane and yet very near the small village of Brix for the very essential French baked goods. The purpose of our trip was to provide our grandchildren an opportunity to see the D-Day beaches and to learn the history of that historic time. 16th C Normandy Chateau is within easy traveling distance to all of the major D-Day sights. We also traveled to other beaches and towns and other major attractions easily from this location. Karin, an owner/manager of the property, assisted us daily. Karin helped us arrange the catering of our evening meals, gave us hints on best places to visit and shop and provided us with everything we needed to make this the perfect family vacation.

At the end each fun filled day, we would all gather on the grounds of the Chateau to share stories of our day trips and to toast our good fortune of finding the perfect vacation spot in Normandy, 16th C Normandy Chateau.

Hello Karine Francois! I want to say thank you for such a wonderful summer. Everyone said that I seemed like a different person when I got back and indeed I did feel 100% better than at the end of last term. I hope it doesn't wear off too quickly! Everything was just perfect, including the weather.
