"Nick should have a Michelin star for his cooking."
"So peaceful and relaxing. A really friendly feel."
"Thank you for making Le Castelet live up to the high standards set in your publicity materials. Thanks to the environment and atmosphere you have created, it so much more than a lovely old chateau set in a beautiful part of the country."
"We all thoroughly enjoyed our time with you and could have happily stayed for much longer. We will wholeheartedly recommend you."
"A gem in the countryside. Superb food plus peace and quiet. The best nights sleep I have ever had."
"Thank you for making us feel at home. It is nothing like staying at a hotel but it has all the facilities."
"Taking two llamas for a walk is one of the best things I have ever done!"
“Le Castelet was everything we could ever have wanted for our perfect idyllic honeymoon. Sumptuous room, exquisite tranquillity, homely kitchen, warm welcoming hospitality, delicious food and regal felines!"
“Jon cooked us a late meal in the kitchen on our arrival. The first day we spent lounging on the lawn reading and snoozing. That evening we were waited on under the trees in the garden as we dined by candle light. Breakfasts were under shade on the patio (served late by request - a real bonus when you want to lie in!) Jon was an excellent host, attentive and friendly. We enjoyed just the right balance of professional service coupled with friendly conversation and informally which helped make our stay very relaxing."
“The surrounding countryside was idyllic and the local people polite and welcoming."
“Excellent value for money. We plan to have our anniversaries here! Wouldn't hesitate recommending it.”
The Nearest ports are Cherbourg and Caen, both of which are about 100km from the chateau. The nearest town is Coutances 12km away.
Key highlights in the Normandy region are the magnificent abbey at Mont St Michel, the famous Bayeaux 1066 tapestry and cathedral, and the D-Day beaches. There are numerous gastronomic tours catering for all tastes – including cider and calvados farms, a snail farm, a bee keeping farm, a fois gras farm, and a cheese factory. There are nearby deserted beaches which offer panoramic views and plenty of chateaux, castles and gardens.
Our top 10 things to do during a stay in Normandy would include (in no particular order): Mont Saint Michel, Caen (great for shopping and museums),
Granville (our local picturesque seaside resort, very lively with a medieval fortified old town). The D-Day beaches (To do them properly, you would need at least a day and include a visit to some museums and exhibitions). Bayeux (for the 1066 tapestry and the medieval town),
local sandy beaches (huge and always empty). The cathedral and botanical gardens in Coutances (with music and lights on summer evenings).
There are large and helpful tourist offices in Coutances (behind the Hotel de Ville) and Saint Lô (in Place Charles de Gaulle (under the rather strange metal viewing tower construction). There is a small office in our neighbouring village of Cerisy-la-Salle in the Maison Cantonal, across the road from the main square and opposite the Post Office (opening times are limited in the Cerisy office).
Local activities include horse riding, donkey treks, golf, bungee jumping, paint-balling llama walks, tennis, swimming, calvados tasting, food trails and fishing.
