The manor house is located only 70km from the Port of Caen or 300km from Calais. The nearest town is St Evroult Notre Dame du Bois 5km away. It is a charming local village on the edge of a beautiful forest. In the heart of the Orne, Basse Normandie, it is the home to famous ancient Abbey ruins, large boating lake, a campsite with mini-golf, and mini-supermarket with a great boulangerie. Within the village is a fantastic restaurant, serving an array of local delicacies, and one further café/restaurant which offers excellent, good value food. In the village, the Viveco shop sells a wide range of provisions plus delicious freshly baked baguettes, pastries, rustic bread, croissants and cakes from the boulangerie. The nearby village of Ferte Fresnel has a range of shops including a butchers, pharmacy and bank, as well as another Viveco and boulangerie.
Opposite the lake in St Evroult, visitors can enjoy lunch or a drink in the café/restaurant, Le Lac des Cygnes. The village is also home to a new restaurant which serves set and à la carte menus at both lunch and dinner. For around 10 Euros, they do particularly good value set menus for lunch which includes wine and coffee. The locally renowned 'La Paradis' hotel/restaurant in nearby village of La Ferte Fresnel is extremely popular with local residents every night of the week. Delicious meals can be enjoyed at extremely reasonable prices. For a more memorable meal out, 'La Marigotiere' in the nearby town of Notre Dame du Hamel serves fabulous à la carte food. In the nearby towns of L’Aigle and, there are also several restaurants and takeaways. L’Aigle also offers two huge French hypermarkets and there is a smaller supermarket in Gacé. The nearest train station to the property is located in L’Aigle which provides excellent transport links into Paris and other parts of the region.
Throughout the year a range of events take place including food festivals, local fetes, night markets, and music festivals. Every Tuesday morning, L'Aigle hosts the 3rd largest market in France. Here you can explore the array of market stalls, selling clothes and gifts/souvenirs, along with the wide range of local produce including the locally produced and famous pink garlic, cheese, honey, cider, ham etc. Located a similar distance from the chateau, is the French National Stud at Haras du Pin. Famed for its history, grand architecture and a chance to see the promenades and horse processions which take place on Thursdays (at no charge). Also within easy travelling distance of the property are the wonderful beaches of Deauville and Trouville, ideal for a day trip. At only an hour away, the great shopping, nightlife, restaurants, galleries, museums and architecture of Rouen or Paris offer guests a fantastic trip before heading back to the peaceful bliss of the countryside.
Other attractions in the region include golf, karting, a Zoo near Lisieux (approximately 40 minutes drive away),
