The Chateau Beaurive is located in 25 hectares of private estate. On site activities include the swimming pool (with solar heating), tennis court with ball machine, Jacuzzi and steam room as well as a clay pigeon machine.
The Chateau is secluded and reached through its own 1km long drive. The land is available for walks and is great for young children. For those who do not wish to walk there is a selection of 9 bikes of varying sizes for you to use.
The scenery is breathtaking, and the rear balcony, available for barbeques, overlooks the massif central which rises to 7000ft. Skiing is available in the winter.
There are many activities locally including canoeing, fishing (chateau lake and others), go-karting, flying, a wine museum and a cheese making facility. For the less energetic the region hosts several 2 and 3 star Michelin Restaurants and many wine caves including mant Cote du Rhone variants.
The interior has been furnished and decorated in the last 5 years to a very high standard. Many of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and sinks are fitted in most rooms. The house was built around 1752 and passed through the hands of a railway magnate. The feature middle room has a mosiac floor with a wheel as a motif, that leads out to the balcony.
The chateau can be divided into various parts. - The South Wing has 2 double rooms, 2 twin rooms and a single. There are 2 en-suite bathrooms. - The North Wing has a double and a twin with an en-suite. - The South and North wings each have their own kitchens and sitting rooms with English speaking TV channels. - Please note that although the chateau can be divided in to separate parts, it is never rented to more than one group. You will be the only guests on site.
In the grounds there is a heated pool (15x5m), a tennis court, a boules court and a wet room with shower, jacuzzi and steam room. There are 9 bikes and a honda pilot style buggy (subject to restrictions). The 25 hectares or woodland belong to the chateau and many more are available for walks or cycling. There is also a lake with fish in it and many other forms of wildlife to see.

The River Loire is 5km away and has all the activities you might expect. For the fly fisherman there are plenty of streams to try. For the rambler or cyclist there is the Route de Basalte (route of the volcanos). You could also take the cure and drink the Badoit water at its source. For those not wishing to take the cure there are plenty of boutique wineries to visit. There are also 2 golf courses within 12km.
There are many local attractions including a ski resort where you can mountain bike down the runs in the summer. In this resort there is one of the largest Go Ape forest parks in Europe and you can swing from the trees or merely enjoy the scenery.

Turreted and dating from the 1600s, the Chateau du Marquis de Tracy sits in 50 acres of parkland in central France's Bourbonnais region. The grounds include ponds, a petanque court and a lovely swimming pool, while the elegant interior is furnished with antiques. Eight bedrooms, sleeps 20; booked through Simply Chateau (0845 389 9582, simplychateau.com), for a week this summer it costs between £2,135 and £2,585. That's £107 to £129 per person, meaning a family of four could pay about £500 if they split the cost with friends.
